Here is a review I have been sitting on for far too long, honestly. Mostly because after every one, I want one more to try to better capture in words. Also because, about halfway through, I tend to get too wrapped up in it to focus on writing anything. Somehow it catches me off guard every time. Like how is this this good?! Ugh. But alas, here goes my fleeting but heartfelt take on the PSyKo SEVEN Nicaragua blended by none other than the indomitable Indiana Ortez.
PSyKo SEVEN Nicaragua Toro (6×50)
WRAPPER/BINDER/FILLER: Nicaraguan
BODY: Medium-full
STRENGTH: Medium
FLAVOR: Medium-full
THE JOURNEY: Gracioussss… it’s like you look at it and it’s practically seamless and silky smooth. Then you toast it and you’re like “this is gonna be good”. Then you light it, and before you’ve had 3 puffs, you’re trying to put your finger on all kinds of things. Each draw after is like a satisfying riddle: you get the sense that if someone would just tell you what you’re tasting you’d be like “Yes! That’s it. I knew that”. But no one is going to just tell you, and the guessing game is what keeps you coming back.
Familiar, but refined. Soft, yet rich. Distantly floral, with caramelized creaminess and that soft, aged funk. Subtle, unobtrusive pepper leaves no bitter or harsh aftertaste. The voluminous mouthfeel never becomes cumbersome. And masterful construction leads to a sharp, even burn and sturdy ash.
With its 7 different types of tobacco, The PSyKo SEVEN Nicaragua is a mind-bending take on what was already some pretty unorthodox branding. Trying to figure out how a Nicaraguan cigar could be so softly elegant – yet still so hefty and bold in its own right – is enough to drive anyone insane. It taunts you throughout, knowing you’ll never quite catch up to it. Not, that is, until you get your next dose…
