We’ve got a Puff, Sip, and Chat Session with Sedrick Dunson, Founder of the Phat Ash Collection.

Sedrick invited me down to his personal Phat Ash Collection lounge, and can I say it is probably one of the BEST basements I’ve been in. We first met at his Can We Talk event at the start of the year and have been eagerly anticipating sitting down together again.
Today, he shares some of his background before starting Phat Ash Collection and his journey with smoking cigars. We talk about his plans for the business and how it’s impacting the local community.
Like I always say, the beauty behind enjoying a nice cigar is the good conversations that come with it. Sedrick offers his advice for how he manages to smoke and do it regularly safely, and I, of course, had to get his opinion on the Atlanta Falcons and see what we could agree on there.

How Sedrick Got Started
I was curious to know Sedrick got started in the business, so I asked him a bit about his background up until that point. A graduate of North Carolina State, he focused his studies on business management with a concentration in marketing. Since that time, he has accrued over 25 years of experience in sales and has taken everything he’s learned and turned it into what we know now as Phat Ash Collection.
So far, it’s been the perfect mix of business and pleasure. He says the late nights and early mornings are much more fulfilling when you’re in business for yourself. Yes, the work is even more challenging than working for someone else, but the joy of seeing something you love come to life is irreplaceable.
I’d definitely have to agree!
Sedrick had his first cigar about a decade ago at the suggestion of a friend. He hated being around smoke and was sure it wasn’t for him until he tried it…
He’s been hooked ever since!
What’s Surprised Him About His Business
As Sedrick has built his brand, it’s been especially exciting to watch the community around it grow and get more involved. Surprisingly, women make up a big part of the lifestyle. Gone are the days where cigar smoking is just a boy’s club! It’sIt’s been so rewarding to see couples and friends join together regardless of background and enjoy a cigar together. He just loves being part of a brand that just helps build bonds with everyone. It’sIt’s a gift!
It turns out, the ladies of Phat Ash Collection hold their ash like a champ. We men cannot even compete!
Another thing that he’s come to appreciate along this journey is the support from his spouse. Without it, he wouldn’t be where he is today. Owning a business can bring up all sorts of stressors, and his wife has stood by him the entire way.
A Day In The Life
I had to ask Sedrick about his routine and how he likes to enjoy a good cigar. Because he enjoys smoking regularly, Sedrick first consulted a doctor for his opinion on how to partake safely.
There’sThere’s a way to smoke daily and still manage to maintain your health. His routine is to smoke his Connecticut’sConnecticut’s in the morning, Habanos in the afternoon, and full-bodied sticks at night. He was smoking a Factory Smoke during our time together, which he considers one of his favorites due to the excellent taste and price point.
He enjoys a coffee in the morning with a stick for beverages, and in the evening he’ll transition to a Stella or a bourbon.
